Meet Liam Mitchell, a New Zealander who is now enjoying his new digs in Melbourne and all of the sites and surrounds that it has to offer. Liam also takes extraordinary photos. Melbournians are lucky to have this seasoned pro on their turf and we were lucky enough to say hello and learn about the man behind the lens.

What do you love about weddings, how did you start out and how long have you been in the business for?

Since 2015 photography has been a part of who I am and the things that I value most in life. I hope these sentiments are connected to the images that you see. I love weddings because I love meeting new people.

Does your brand have a specific style?

I feel that the best way to photograph a wedding is to document it as it unfolds naturally in front of me. I prefer to capture the day truthfully and not stage or force anything. I pride myself in catching those golden, in-between moments that often slip by unnoticed. Whether it be a tear, rolling down dad’s cheek, when he sees his daughter in her dress for the first time, or the groom’s expression when he catches sight of his bride walking down the aisle. Documenting all those real emotions on your day, the moment, frozen in time, that sparks a feeling when you look back on your images, that’s what I strive to achieve with my photography. Feeling a little awkward in front of the camera is entirely normal, and every couple I shoot feels this way before the wedding. Afterwards, they couldn't believe how easy it was. I try to keep my images as natural as possible and will not have you posing stiffly in front of the camera looking like you never normally would. I want you guys to hang out, focusing on having fun.

How many people do you have on your team and who should we expect on the day? If no one, do you have a backup plan?

A organised team of three of highly experienced wedding photographers and videographers. I always always have a back up plan in case it is needed.

Tell us a bit about your process when booking a wedding from start to finish? What’s included and what’s not?

I understand that you are entrusting me to document the biggest day of your lives. If I’m going to play such a significant role in your wedding, I feel like we should get to know one another first. Therefore, i’m an advocate for catching up pre weddings whether on Zoom or in person, nothing to formal it just feels it’s good for people to put a face to the name.

What info do you require from a couple to best understand their vision and accurately quote on jobs?

The wedding style that the couple is going for. Everyone is different and I always like to cater for what the couple want on the day as best that I can. I also need to know time frames and whether the client would like photo, video or both.

Tell us a bit about your fee structure?

No wedding day is the same and I understand my couples require different amounts of coverage.  I offer a variety of different packages and each package is totally customisable.  My packages start from 2 hours for elopements right up to full day coverage for big celebrations. It is based on length of time, and what the client would like to add on for example if they would like a second photographer.

Do you offer packages (which might include trials, fittings, rehearsals, engagement shots etc).

I am very happy to capture it all including BBQ's the next day. I can easily work within the couples budget. I travel throughout Australia, costs generally include flights and accommodation. I like to arrive the day before to scout out the location

Got any hot tips for couples when booking a business like yours?

What’s was the coolest, craziest or your most memorable wedding to work on?

Any wedding with a Helicopter.

Tell us a bit about the face behind the brand. What do you get up to on a day off and where would we find you?

Photography is not just my job. It’s my passion. When I am not photographing weddings, I shoot personal work. This allows me to draw inspiration into my wedding photography. I am also a massive sports fan and love to have a beer or two.

Where do you find your personal flare and inspiration for the business?

I am inspired by many other photographers. I think on the day it really helps to not over direct people.

Finally, Tell us why you’re awesome? What sets your business apart from the rest.

What is important to me when capturing your wedding is the story. The feeling and connection of you, the couple, and the love and joy of all those dearest to you.
I feel I capture these moments; the raw organic emotions that come out on a wedding day the best.
